“The Offside Museum highlights when women were banned from playing soccer”

The Drum

Offside Museum

From 1921 to 1979, women were legally banned from playing football in many countries. Despite this, many defied the ban and played in secrecy, leaving this era undocumented—until now. In partnership with the football museum, we created an empty museum that gradually filled with stories as they were uncovered. Through a global crowd-sourcing effort, memories, evidence, and firsthand accounts of these pioneering women were collected, making thousands of documents and photographs publicly available via Google Arts & Culture
